Several area basketball players earned a spot on the local 2010 Dennis Johnson Memorial High School All-Star Game, which will be played Friday and Saturday before the Austin Toros’ home games.
Representing Leander Independent School District on the girls side are Cedar Park’s Kristi Lianza and Maddie Wheeler, who are joined by Leander’s Aissa Barrera and Sierra Nevels. They will represent the north all-stars at 4:30 p.m Friday, with the game to be played. right before the Toros play the Utah Flash.
The boys game will start at 4:30 p.m. Saturday before the Toros and Flash face off again. The Lions’ Jean Maurice Blanchard will team up with Vista Ridge’s Isaiah Reeves and Cedar Park’s Matt Gallagher for the north boys team. Both games are at the Austin Convention Center.
Furthermore, Rangers’ coach Pat Brown, who won his 400th game in December, will coach the boys south side against Crockett’s John Morgan, who will coach the north team.
Austin-area seniors are selected to one of the 12-man rosters on the north or south team. The all-star games are dedicated to the memory of former NBA player and Toros coach Dennis Johnson, who died in 2007 while he was coach of the Toros.
As an additional honor, Wheeler was recently selected to play in the Texas Girls Coaches’ Association all-star showcase, which is be July 15 at Lamar High School in Arlington.
