Five Vista Ridge softball players received the distinction of being an Academic All-State player last week.
Graduated Vista Ridge athletes Alexis Lynn, Nikki Hendriks, Kelsey Harlow, Taylor Thom and Cora Ramirez were all named Academic All-State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association. Furthermore, Ramirez and Thom both received TGCA All-State Honors following the 2010 season, and the two graduated Lady Rangers will also play in the TGCA 4A/5A All-Star Game 7 p.m. July 13 at the Workman Complex in Arlington.
Austin Area All-Star Game
The Lady Rangers also made their mark on the Austin Area All-Star Softball game played June 17 at Westlake High School.
Representing the winning North team, Rachel Burton cranked a one-out double to the fence in the second inning, and she came in to score on fellow Lady Ranger Ramirez’ sac-fly to put the North team ahead 2-1. They would go on to win the game 5-1.
Hays’ Amanda Ruiz made a diving catch in right field to rob Thom of a double in the game. Nikki Hendriks was also on the squad.
Cedar Park graduates Jessica Edwards, Stephanie Raesz and Jessica Edwards and Leander’s Monica Castillo were also in the game.
Win tickets to Wrigley Field
Friday night fans have a chance to win tickets to Chicago to see the Chicago Cubs play at historic Wrigley Field. Time Warner Cable is screening the movie “The Sandlot” Friday at Elizabeth Milburn Park as part of the Movies in Your Park series, and in conjunction with WGN America’s “Boys of Summer” sweepstakes, a drawing will be held fora prize package that includes two tickets to a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field this season, airfare for two people and transportation to and from the airport, hotel accomodations on Michigan Avenue for three days and two nights, as well as a Cubs prize pack of accessories. Festivites are slated to begin at 7 p.m., and the drawing will take place at 9 p.m. with the movie screening to follow. The winning participant must be in attendance to claim the prize.
